Getting around La Cala de Mijas
One of La Cala’s quiet advantages is how connected it is. Málaga–Costa del Sol airport is about 32 km away — roughly 25 minutes by car — which makes it realistic as a lock-up-and-leave second home as well as a full-time base. The A-7 coastal motorway runs right past the town, free and direct, with the AP-7 toll motorway as a faster alternative when the coast is busy in high season.
For the coast itself, La Cala sits almost exactly halfway between Marbella and Fuengirola — about 20 minutes to either — so wherever you want to be on the Costa del Sol, you’re central. Puerto Banús, Málaga city, and the golf and shopping of Mijas and Fuengirola are all comfortable drives.
Honestly: La Cala does not have its own train station. The nearest is the Cercanías (C1) line at Fuengirola, about 15 minutes away, which runs along the coast into Málaga city and the airport — a useful option, though most residents here drive. Local buses connect La Cala with Fuengirola, Mijas Pueblo and along the coast. In town, everything — beach, shops, restaurants, the market — is walkable, which is exactly why many people who buy here find they use the car far less than they expected.
