Property for sale in La Cala de Mijas

Looking for a home in La Cala? Start with people who know it first-hand. La Cala de Mijas is home turf for Conrisa — we’re based on the Mijas Costa, so the neighbourhoods, developments, beaches and golf communities we recommend are places we know inside out.

What is it actually like to live in La Cala?

La Cala offers something not available everywhere on the Costa del Sol: you can live here without organising your whole day around the car. In and around the centre, the beach, promenade, restaurants, shops and everyday services are within walking distance. Move inland or towards the golf communities and the character changes quickly — more space, newer developments, open views and greater reliance on a car. That distinction matters: two properties described online as “in La Cala” can offer very different lifestyles. It remains a functioning year-round town, not a summer-only destination, with an international population alongside a strong Spanish community.

Conrisa local tip: if being able to walk into La Cala matters, don’t rely on a listing’s location description — some developments marketed as “in or around La Cala” need a car for almost every journey. Tell us walkability matters before we search and we’ll factor it in.

Where should you buy in La Cala?

Town centre

For buyers who prioritise walking to restaurants, shops, services and the beach — convenience usually means compromising on space.

Beachside

Proximity to the Mediterranean above almost everything — limited supply, and it commands a premium.

La Cala Golf & developments

Greener, quieter and more spacious, with golf and resort living, modern apartments and wider views — but a car matters much more. Watch exact location, orientation and access, not just the marketing.

Before you fall for the photos, decide which compromises you’ll make. Walkability, sea views, outdoor space, privacy and beach proximity rarely all come at the same price — knowing your top two or three makes the search far more effective.

La Cala is a good fit if you want

  • A largely walkable town with easy beach access
  • Year-round services and an established international community
  • Golf within reach and easy access to Fuengirola and Marbella
  • A holiday home that also works for longer stays, or a permanent base without a big city

Somewhere else may suit if

Your priorities are complete privacy, very large plots, traditional rural Spain, or living inside a larger city. In those cases we’d rather help you compare La Cala with other locations than sell you the wrong area.

La Cala — common questions

How far is La Cala from Málaga Airport?

About 30–35 minutes by car in normal traffic; longer in heavy or summer traffic.

Can you live in La Cala without a car?

In or near central La Cala, many everyday needs are walkable; properties inland and around golf are much more car-dependent. If walkability matters, make it a first criterion.

La Cala or Calahonda?

Different lifestyles — La Cala is more concentrated and walkable, Calahonda larger and more spread out. It depends on walkability, property type, budget, views, space or access. Explore property in Calahonda.

Can I buy for holiday rentals?

Potentially, but don’t assume every property qualifies — Andalucía short-term rental rules and the community may restrict it. Tell us at the start so requirements can be checked.

Is La Cala the same as Mijas Costa?

La Cala is one of the principal coastal towns within Mijas Costa, which covers a wider coastline and several communities. Check the exact location rather than assuming every “Mijas Costa” property offers the same lifestyle.
