Where to buy
The best areas to buy on the Mijas Costa, by lifestyle
There is no single “best” area on the Mijas Costa — it depends on how you want to live. Here is where we point buyers depending on what matters most: a walkable town, value and rental income, golf, a marina, connections, or a white-village setting. Each links to a full area guide and to live listings.
For a walkable beach town: La Cala de Mijas
A genuine town with a square, a Blue Flag beach, a seafront promenade and a year-round restaurant scene — and three golf resorts minutes away. The pick if you want to live car-light. Read the La Cala de Mijas guide.
For value and rental income: Calahonda and Fuengirola
Calahonda is large, established and keenly priced, with strong year-round rental demand — a favourite with investors. Fuengirola offers the coast’s best breadth of value and some of its strongest yields, in a proper town. See the Calahonda and Fuengirola guides.
For golf: La Cala Golf, Riviera del Sol and around
If golf anchors your week, look at La Cala Golf (resort living around one of Spain’s largest golf resorts) and Riviera del Sol (from beach up to Miraflores golf). Nueva Andalucia’s Golf Valley is a short drive west.
For a marina and a natural beach: Cabopino
Cabopino pairs a pretty marina with protected dunes and one of the coast’s best natural beaches — a calmer, characterful spot between Marbella and the Mijas Costa.
For a connected town: Fuengirola
Fuengirola is the coast’s best-connected town, with a direct train to Malaga and the airport — rare here, and ideal for lock-up-and-leave owners and car-light living.
For a white-village setting: Mijas Pueblo
Above the coast, Mijas Pueblo offers the classic Andalucian white village — views, character and cooler summers, minutes from the beaches below.
Common questions
Which Mijas Costa area is best for rental income?
Calahonda and Fuengirola tend to offer the strongest, most consistent rental demand thanks to scale, holiday appeal and keener prices. La Cala de Mijas rents well too, usually at a higher entry price.
Where can I live without a car?
Central La Cala de Mijas and Fuengirola are the most walkable. In lower Calahonda and around Riviera Plaza in Riviera del Sol you can walk to shops and restaurants day-to-day, with the N340 coastal bus or a car for trips to Fuengirola, Marbella and beyond. More spread-out or hillside spots need a car for everyday life.
Which area is best for golf?
La Cala Golf and Riviera del Sol put you among courses on the Mijas Costa, with Nueva Andalucia’s Golf Valley a short drive west.
